Neill Blomkamp Instagrammed ALIEN as His Next Film

Unofficial ALIEN Concept Art

A month ago, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp posted some Alien sequel concept art, but said the extra-terrestrial reboot was likely abandoned. Obviously, he was wrong about it as the images have generated the most positive response from Fox.

The studio has reportedly closed a deal with him to develop a new Alien movie, which is an official sequel (not prequel) in the Alien series.

It’s also been confirmed that this doesn’t replace Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus 2, which is still scheduled for post-The Martian, and is set for release on March 4, 2016.

It’s unclear whether – as the director had been hinting – Sigourney Weaver would return to play Ellen Ripley since the new Alien takes place years after the Prometheus sequel. But it’s no secret that she knows about it, and had been working with Blomkamp on Chappie, which lands in theaters March 6.

Blomkamp also confirmed the tentpole was back on track at Fox, posting a new image with a message that should make Alien franchise fans pretty happy, “Um…So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien
