Netflix-Disney Rumors Swirl Again
Once again it is rumored that The House of the Mouse is setting its sights on the mega-popular streaming service, Netflix. According to TechCrunch, this could be a reaction to the announcement of AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner.
The notion of Netflix being bought out is nothing new (e.g. Alibaba), and there’s been rumors of Disney eyeing up the toy manufacturer Hasbro purchase, but this never became a reality too.
However, the site notes that Disney CEO Bob Iger is getting ready to retire with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings possibly filling the role, so that’s “one more tantalizing strategic reason for Disney to do the Netflix deal.”
They already have so much Disney content on there, such as “The Defenders” series and Zootopia movie, and it’d be a pity if Netflix became a distribution arm for Disney material. Right now, they are buying the best brands from every medium: ESPN, ABC, Pixar, “The Muppets,” Marvel, and Lucasfilm. At some point, they’ll be able to buy the freaking Army, but as a company they are really shady (their stock has lost nearly a quarter of its value since last fall).
Well, we’ll just have to see how it all shakes out. For more details, check out the original story.
