Netflix Sets CROUNCHING TIGER Sequel as First Original Movie

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2

Netflix has signed a deal with The Weinstein Co.  for its first feature movie, a sequel to Ang Lee’s 2000 martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon due out in both IMAX and on Netflix the same day on August 28, 2015.

So, this is how Clerks III got green lit.

Uhm, well, the next chapter in the saga is titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend and includes original cast member Michelle Yeoh returning as Yu-Shu Lien, along with newcomer Donnie Yen in a lead role as Silent Wolf as well as Glee star Harry Shum Jr.  (Big shoes to fill… I’ve also heard fans want to see Cung Le recast in the film with Donnie Yen.)

However, director Ang Lee whose 2000 film won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar will be replaced by the renowned martial arts choreographer/stuntman (The Matrix Trilogy and Kill Bill) and filmmaker Woo-ping Yuen (Tai Chi Master) who is directing a script by John Fusco.

The upcoming film, based on the fifth book in the series, ‘Silver Vase, Iron Knight,’ is expected to be the first of several big-name films to premiere day-and-date releases on both Netflix service and IMAX theaters.

The Green Legend co-stars Jason Scott Lee (Seventh Son), Roger Yuan (Bulletproof Monk), Eugenia Yuan (Revenge of the Green Dragons) and newcomer Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Netflix also released two first look photos, featuring stars Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen.

So, if you have service, it will be a perk, free for you to watch as soon as midnight strikes. Nice one, Netflix.
