New ‘Doctor Strange’ Photos Show Cumberbatch as the Marvel Superhero

EW's First Look Issue

EW has debuted new images of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in full neurosurgeon turned necromancer mode, plus, new info on Mads Mikkelsen‘s character. Cumberbatch definitely looks the part.

The film stars Cumberbatch in the lead with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One and, in undisclosed roles, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Scott Adkins, Amy Landecker, and Mikkelsen playing the as-yet-unnamed villain, described as “a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect.”

The Marvel Studios boss and Doctor Strange producer Kevin Feige explained:

“[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”

The film follows the story of self-centered neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange who transforms into a sorcerer after a horrific car accident and stumbles upon a hidden world of magic. Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee and Steve Ditko co-created the character in 1963. Directed by Scott Derrickson from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, the film arrives in theaters November 4, 2016.
