New International Trailer for JUPITER ASCENDING Streamlines the Plot

The winter blockbuster Jupiter Ascending has a new international trailer out. The new trailer is more streamlined than the last one was, and the chaotic madness of the early trailers seems to disappear.

The latest venture from Andy and Lana Wachowski’s looks a lot better from a trailer point of view as a high concept sci-fi event movie, instead of positioning the film as a sort of space adventure love story.

The much delayed Jupiter Ascending was obviously pushed back to basically rework the story into a more straight-forward blockbuster adventure type movie. I’m hoping for the best, but it’s just not getting me excited about this movie. Maybe this is another example of bad marketing, or the Wachowski’s are one hit wonders, and that hit was The Matrix.

Anyway, Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), who plays the otherworldly villain, Balem the King, seems like a lock for an Oscar nod for The Theory of Everything, which could generate new interest in the film.

“Cinderella in space with lots more VFX and explosions” co-stars Channing Tatum (Foxcatcher) as a “half-wolf, half-albino warrior,” and Mila Kunis (Oz the Great and Powerful) as unlikely royalty “who learns that not only is humanity just a small part of a vast interplanetary corporate system, but Jupiter herself is the reincarnation of royalty, and destined to rule Earth.”

Jupiter Ascending opens February 6, 2015, with a cast that also includes Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Douglas Booth (Noah), Tuppence Middleton (Trance), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas) and James D’Arcy (Hitchcock).

The film has already debuted a number of trailers. Check out the latest one.

Tatum looks like he should be in an emo band or cheesy 80s fantasy flick. I don’t much care for him. Instead I’m going to make a bold prediction and say Sean Bean dies in this one.

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis star in Jupiter Ascending, an original science fiction epic adventure from filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski. Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos. From the streets of Chicago to far flung galaxies whirling through space, Jupiter Ascending is written and directed by the Wachowskis.
