New Photos of Jon M. Chu’s JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Released

1980s Cartoon Turned Live Action

Thanks to USA Today, which just released the first look at director Jon M. Chu’s live action version of the 80’s cartoon Jem and the Holograms, you are going to wish it was October 23rd already. Lol!

Well, to be honest the first photo was unveiled back in February, but new photos offer new looks at Jem stars Aubrey Peeples as Jerrica “Jem” Benton, Stefanie Scott as Kimber Benton, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja Leith and Aurora Perrineau as Shana, which you can check out in the gallery below. Oh yeah, almost forgot Ryan Guzman as Rio, the Jem’s road manager/boyfriend. He looks like some random dude on the street.

“It’s actually about a group of young people who are going to be inundated with this idea of fame and fortune and products and stuff, and within all that, how do you stay true to who you really are?” said Chu. “That’s the real soul of the movie.”

The film also stars Juliette Lewis as the main villain along with Molly Ringwald, Nicholas Braun, Samanth Newark, Birta Phillips and Nathan Moore. A movie adaptation of “Jem and the Holograms” is penned by Ryan Landels. I must say, I don’t see how this will be faithful to the original series with no Misfits, no Synergy, and no actual involvement from the “Jem” creator Christy Marx. Nevermind, please see below the animation and toy icons updated for the “YouTube generation.”

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
