New Rumor Pegs Spider-Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Over at HitFix, an interesting article suggests that Spider-Man may finally swing his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the piece of news that caught my eye is about Peter Parker and his milieu.  Drew McWeeny says,

“While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool Spider-Man plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds. Will it work out? I don’t know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it’s happening. What seems clear from what I’ve heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again.”

It’s no secret that Sony plans for The Amazing Spider-Man are not going as well as the studio had hoped, but it probably doesn’t mean Spidey could pop up in the MCU.

And although this is probably not actually going to happen, this is what comic fans dream of. Marvel would also love to have some control over one of the company’s most iconic characters.  Yeah, but only over Avi Arad’s dead body.

I’m not a fan of the idea of both universe happening as the same one and if there was to be a Spidey cross-over, or blending Peter Parker with the characters of The Avengers, I’d drop him into Mel Gibson’s upcoming Iron Man IV. Do you believe that it will ever happen?
