New SPIDER-MAN Will Have a John Huges Vibe; Feature New Villains

Kevin Feige Spoke To Birth.Movies.Death.

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Tom Holland will play Peter Parker and his heroic alter-ego, Spider-Man, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige spoke to Birth.Movies.Death. about what we can expect in terms of tone:

“It’s the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting,” Feige said. “Just as we hadn’t seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven’t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time. Not that we can make a John Hughes movie – only John Hughes could – but we’re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.”

Imagine John Hughes being alive and being hired to direct the new Spider-Man movie…Feige you’re a genius. Oh, wait… this is even better: Kevin Feige is slowly turning into Jon Peters.

The producer also added that fans will get to see entirely new villains, although he didn’t mention any specific Spider-Man’s enemies yet.

‘That’s the advantage. Right now we’re interested in seeing villains we haven’t seen before.”

That would leave the door open for some great Spider-Man villains like Mysterio, Kraven, Vulture, Scorpion or Alistair Smythe. I like the sound of this. Feige teased that Spidey could show up in some of the studio’s Netflix TV shows.

“My general answer to that is never say never. But our current Sony deal is very specific – we’re producing the standalone film, with a certain amount of back and forth allowed.”

Marvel and Sony’s co-produced Spider-Man reboot comes to theaters July 28, 2017, while new Spider-Man is expected to make his Marvel Studios debut in Captain America: Civil War next year.
