New Trailer for THE GIVER; Meryl Streep is Drunk with Power

I’m not a die-hard fan of dystopian YA books but who cares. A brand new The Giver trailer for director Philip Noyce’s adaptation of the beloved Lois Lowry book is here and it offers the black-and-white imagery for which classic novel is known because everyone but those with ‘pale eyes’ are color blind.

Meryl Streep, the queen of the Oscars, is in full swing as the society’s Chief Elder ruling with an indomitable will, and a tendency to say things like “When people have the freedom to choose, they choose wrong.”

The story of a society in which people no longer feel pretty much anything

centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbery Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

The sci-fi thriller also stars Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent), Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, and Odeya Rush.

The Giver opens August 15.

Hey, this looks nothing like the book, but rather like the god damn Hunger Games.
