New “X-Files” Trailers Tease the Upcoming Revival

Gillian Anderson And David Duchovny

“The truth is still out there.” FBI agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder are back after a 13-year hiatus. Fox has released two new teaser trailers for the upcoming “X-Files” revival series.

We see not only David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their iconic roles, but also their former supervisor Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and a hand holding a cigarette that hints at the return of The Smoking Man (William B. Davis).

Chris Carter 2016's Reboot

In addition, the 2016’s reboot will see the return of Annabeth Gish (FBI Agent Monica Reyes), Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood (The Lone Gunmen). New additions to the cast include Joel McHale as Tad O’Malley, “the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Mulder,” and Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”) as Sveta, the victim of alien abduction, as well as Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”) and Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”).

The six-episode reboot is making a TV comeback in January with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT) following the NFC Championship Game, continuing on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

Check out two new teaser trailers below, which premiered during new episodes of the TV shows “Gotham” and “Minority Report.” (UPDATED: I’ve now updated yesterday’s fan-provided captures with the full quality X-Files trailer in the player below.)

“In 2002, our investigation ceased, but my personal obsession did not.” OMG, that theme song gave me chills while playing every damn time.

“You are on dangerous ground here.” The original series producer and creator  Chris Carter wrote and directed three of the installments, while series vets Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong wrote and directed the remaining three. I hope Carter has got the right people around him, to guide his dark, creative genius.

Gillian Anderson

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI ASST. DIR. WALTER SKINNER, Mulder and Scully’s boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.
