Noah Baumbach’s MISTRESS AMERICA Trailer and Poster

Fox Searchlight has debuted the first trailer for Noah Baumbach‘s (Frances Ha) comedy Mistress America, the second picture to arrive this year, featuring Greta Gerwig and Lola Kirke as soon-to-be stepsisters who meet for the first time.

This screwball comedy premiered at Sundance Film Festival back in January, and A24 released Baumbach’s previous film While We’re Young in March. I think this one looks better. If nothing else, the film confirms Gerwig as one of the fearless screen comediennes of her generation. The screenplay is from Baumbach and Gerwig too.

Michael Chernus, Heather Lind, Matthew Shear, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and musician/actor Dean Wareham co-stars. Mistress America is out August 14th. If you need to bother watching the trailer, here it is.

And if the poster’s tagline tricks folks who wouldn’t normally by a ticket for the film, I’m all for it.

Noah Baumbach's Comedy

In MISTRESS AMERICA, Tracy (Lola Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Greta Gerwig) – a resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town – she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke’s alluringly mad schemes.
