Olivia Cooke Cast as Female Lead in ‘Ready Player One’

Ready Player One

Looks like we have a star in the making. THR reports that Steven Spielber has tapped Me and Earl and the Dying Girl star Olivia Cooke for female lead in his upcoming film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s bestseller Ready Player One.

Cooke had landed the coveted part of Art3mis, a virtual friend/object of attraction for the story’s hero in the near-future tale about an ’80s-themed treasure hunt set inside an advanced virtual-reality game.

Zak Penn adapted the novel to the screen. Ready Player One is slated to bow on December 15, 2017.

Cooke, who will be seen next in indie drama Katie Says Goodbye, beat out contenders such as Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke. She was also said to be on a shortlist for the leading role in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, but Ready Player One might put her out of the running.

I can only hope they can make her look a little nerdy with makeup – she is definitely more beautiful than Art3mis in the book.
