‘Over Your Dead Body’ Trailer: Takashi Miike’s New Horror Film

A full length trailer for Takashi Miike’s new horror film Over Your Dead Body is here and it looks like this is going to one bloody experience with a supernatural twist.

The trailer provides relatively few details, but this haunting, graphic and gruesome horror is reportedly a modern take on the Yotsuya Kaidan ghost story, which originated as a kabuki play in 1825.

Ebizo Ichikawa, Ko Shibasaki, Hideaki Ito, Miho Nakanishi, Maiko, Toshie Negishi, Hiroshi Katsuno and Ikko Furuya star in the fantasy adventure film. Over Your Dead Body has played on the festival circuit and is gearing up to hit home video and VOD on January 5, 2016, which is kind of a bummer if you’re in North America.

The Japanese master removes the line between reality and fiction and you’re never quite sure where the movie is going to end. When it comes to Miike, you watch his films because of how f*cking crazy they are. The prolific director has been tapped to helm a live-action adaptation of Hiroaki Samura’s manga “Blade of the Immortal.” I still can’t believe he hasn’t make a movie in America.

Takashi Miike’s New Horror Film

A beautiful actress (Kô Shibasaki of 47 Ronin and Battle Royale) plays the protagonist in a new play based on a legendary ghost story. She pulls some strings to get her lover cast in the play, although he’s a relatively unknown actor. With the cast in place, rehearsals for the play, about an abusive relationship and a grudge, begin. But off stage, some begin to develop their own obsessions. Trapped between the play and reality, they are horrified to find that a real grudge can cross the blurred line between reality and fantasy. Will love flourish? Or has it already turned hideously dark?
