PAN Moves From Summer to Fall Release

Hugh Jackman Blackbeard

Following a brief new teaser for director Joe Wright‘s upcoming re-imagining of the Peter Pan tale, the bad news is that Warner Bros. is now opting to push back the release of the film.

Originally slated for July 24, a prequel to the classic J.M. Barrie story will now arrive on October 9th this fall.

WB distribution exec Dan Fellman explained:

“We wanted to give Pan the space to extend its theatrical run, so taking it out of the cluttered summer season made the most sense. Moving the film to the heart of the fall will allow us more time to screen the picture, enabling us to capitalize on what we anticipate will be strong word of mouth.”

It will apparently give Wright time to polish off the film. He said:

As you might expect, the fantastical story of Peter Pan involves very complex effects and I did not want to compromise on quality in finishing the film. This allows me and my team the time to complete the movie and tell the story the way it should be told.

Well, this move drops Pan right into a crowded post-festival fall 2015 lineup. The pic will square off against Steve Jobs, Bridge of Spies, Crimson Peak, and Gooosebumps, which is probably better than going up against Pixels, Southpaw, Ant-Man, Trainwreck and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Hugh Jackman, who plays the dreaded pirate Blackbeard, recently shared the sneak peek at Pan. The film also stars Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, Garrett Hedlund plays Hook and Levi Miller plays Pan, along with Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevigne, Adeel Akhtar, Jack Charles, Taejoo Na, Nonso Anozie, Kathy Burke, Kurt Egyiawan, Lewis Macdougall, and Leni Zieglmeier. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.
