Penelope Cruz Courted For BOND 24?

Further on from last week’s report that Chiwetel Ejiofor is in the running to play the next Bond villain, now another big star has come into the casting mix.

Director Sam Mendes is reportedly courting Spanish actress Penelope Cruz to be the newest Bond Girl for the upcoming sequel. Her name appeared in a recent release schedule update from Sony – she was listed in the cast alongside Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris.

This could quite possibly be an error made by the French distributors. As we have already mentioned, Swedish actresses Ida Engvoll and Disa Östrand have filmed screen tests for the role that could be the next Bond Girl, “a Scandinavian with a troubled past who will serve as a brief love interest for Bond.”

Approaching her 40th birthday, Cruz, whose real life husband Javier Bardem played Skyfall’s antagonist, Raoul Silva, could potentially be the oldest Bond girl yet. We’ll just have to wait and see if that actually pans out into anything.

Both Bond 24 and Bond 25 will be filmed together and include a shared story, and for now, Craig, Fiennes, Harris, and Ben Whishaw all return as James Bond, M, Moneypenny, and Q.

Bond 24 will be released in the UK and US on October 23, 2015 and November 6, 2015.
