Peyton Reed is New ANT-MAN Director!

Let’s give the new guy a chance! Marvel has just announced that they have hired Peyton Reed – the guy who directed Yes Man and The Break Up – to direct Ant-Man with Adam McKay contributing to the script written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish.

Here’s the official press release:

When Marvel’s Ant-Man hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film’s script.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Furthermore, there can be no delay on the shoot that’s scheduled to start this summer for a July 17, 2015 release. Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Michael Pena, Clifton Collins Jr., Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson, and Corey Stoll.

The synopsis sounds great – it’s a more heroic take on the Scott Lang version of Ant-Man than Wright apparently wanted – and this pairing of director and writer gives me more hope that Ant-Man does turn out to be a good superhero heist film.

All jokes aside, I’m not really too thrilled about this choice. How about you?
