PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Adds Brenton Thwaites in Key Role

Pirates of the Caribbean 5

It appears that the young up-and-comer Brenton Thwaites has nabbed a key role in Disney’s next installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

The Giver star will join the returning Johnny Depp, who is reprising his role as the loopy Captain Jack Sparrow, in the coveted new role of Henry, a British soldier.

The Wrap first posted the story that Thwaites will play an Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) equivalent in the new movie. They also report that Javier Bardem is in final negotiations to be the villainous Captain Brand, a ghost who blames Sparrow for his brother’s murder.

Geoffrey Rush is expected to reprise his role as Barbosa, alongside Ian McShane (Blackbeard’s Ghost) and Stephen Graham (Scrum), with possible cameos from Bloom and Keith Richards (Teague Sparrow). Please get the rest of the crew back, like Cotton, Marty, Pintel and Ragetti,  so we can have a reason to be interested.

Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are directing from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson. So glad Rob Marshall isn’t directing this.

Although unconfirmed by Disney, the title is still Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Filming will start this February for a July 7th, 2017 release.

Johnny Depp Orlando Bloom

Thwaites was good in both The Signal and Son of  a Gun, and I think that he deserves a big movie role like this. After all, he looks like Bloom’s little brother.
