POWER RANGERS Hits Theaters July 22, 2016

Lionsgate announced Wednesday afternoon that a reboot of the once popular series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will open at a multiplex near you on July 22, 2016, just over two years from now.

we learned that Lionsgate has hired X-Men: First Class screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to handle the script.

We also learned that the studio favorite Roberto Orci is coming on board as an executive producer and will also help develop the story alongside Miller and Ashley.

He said last month that this new Power Rangers movie doesn’t overwrite the mythology:

“It’s got a continuity within the world, I can’t tell you what, but it does have a continuity.”

TV show began in 1993 on Fox and has aired a total of 20 seasons thus far. The general synopsis for the upcoming film reminds you of why you loved them in the ’90s:

“From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”

Haim Saban, Allison Shearmur and Brian Castentini are co-producing the small screen to big screen revival.

The third theatrical feature based on this property will go up against Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur that weekend, and it’ll arrive the first week after a new Jason Bourne entry and one week before Planet of the Apes 3.

The official lineup of actors appearing on the film and its director are yet to be named. It’s morphin’ time!
