PRIVATE BENJAMIN Remake Starring Rebel Wilson

Following Private Benjamin “remade” in 2008, which was “one of the most hilariously awful movies ever filmed,” New Line is moving forward with its remake of the 1980 Goldie Hawn-fronted comedy.

The studio has secured Rebel Wilson as one of its lead actresses and is currently on the hunt for a director.

The Aussie actress will be reporting for duty to the the U.S. military in the redo, which will follow a redneck (Wilson) and a rich city gal “who get more than they bargained for when they enlist in the Marines to escape their present situations.”

Therefore, this time it’ll be two girls, with Wilson tagging along as the sidekick.

Anna Faris, currently starring in CBS’ freshman comedy MOM, was linked to the lead role of a spoiled woman who winds up in the Army in 2010.

The original film, which followed a spoiled woman who joins the Army after her husband dies during sex on their wedding night, was a huge box office hit and spawned a short-lived TV series.

It may be a while before the Private Benjamin redo actually gets its wheels on, so stay tuned for more updates as they come in.

Wilson currently stars on the ABC sitcom Super Fun Night and will reprise her role in the musical comedy sequel Pitch Perfect 2, which starts filming soon. She’ll be seen on the big screen in another sequel, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, this December.
