PROMETHEUS Writer to Rewrite Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE

Two weeks ago we learned that Sinister director Scott Derrickson will be directing Marvel’s big-screen rendition of Doctor Strange and now we know that they’re not going to stick with the screenplay turned in several years ago by Thomas Dean Donnelly/Joshua Oppenheimer duo.

Jon Spaihts, best known for writing the first draft of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, is in talks to write the screenplay, which will likely be a page-one rewrite.

Spaihts has been attached to write Universal’s reboot of The Mummy and Disney’s remake of The Black Hole, but Marvel’s plan is to get a script and put Doctor Strange in production as soon as possible.

What we have also learned, the shortlist for the lead includes previously-reported candidates Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch joined by Academy Award winning actor-turned singer-turned actor Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club).

Doctor Strange is rumored for 2017, but Marvel Studios still hasn’t officially announced the movie, so expect more news to arrive at Comic-Con this July.

Leto looks far too young and in my opinion Marvel could at least give Mads Mikkelson a screen read.
