As part of viral marketing campaign, a new video was uploaded quietly on YouTube with the statement “my video resume,” by Lou Bloom, the character that Jake Gyllenhaal plays in Nightcrawler and it’s clear Gyllenhaal has dropped a ton of weight for the lead role of an aggressive freelance crime journalist.

A small-time Los Angeles criminal says in the first teaser:

“Excuse me sir, I’m looking for a job. In fact, I’ve made up my mind to find a career that I can learn and grow into. Who am I? I’m a hard worker, I set high goals and I’ve been told I’m persistent. Now I’m not fooling myself, sir, having been raised with the self-esteem movement so popular in schools, I used to expect my needs to be considered. But I know that today’s work culture no longer caters to the job loyalty that could be promised to earlier generations.”

I’m sold. The directorial debut of The Bourne Legacy screenwriter Dan Gilroy (the brother of Tony Gilroy), co-stars Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed, and Bill Paxton.

Open Road Films will be releasing this edgy thriller in limited theaters starting October 17th, but firstly expect this one to premiere at TIFF.

It turns out Gyllenhaal is an amazing actor. Besides, I loved the Nightcrawler TV series (not to be confused with the X-Men mutant) and I’m looking forward to this.
