Reese Witherspoon to Star in Disney’s Live-Action Tinkerbell Spin-Off

To Star In Disney’s Live-Action

According to THR, Reese Witherspoon has come aboard to produce and star in yet another live-action production from Disney, a new Tinkerbell movie that will go simply by the name Tink.

Victoria Strouse (Pixar’s upcoming Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory) is penning the script for the film which does not yet have a director attached. The project has been in motion at Disney since at least 2010, with a more modest mid-range budget in mind (opposed to the larger budgeted Maleficent and Cinderella). At one time, Elizabeth Banks was attached to star.

While plot details for a live-action take on the classic Peter Pan character are currently unknown, the pitch is that “it will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative.” It’s not to be confused with Warner Bros.’ Pan, starring Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara, and Shawn Levy‘s still-untitled live action comedy that will star Melissa McCarthy as the sprite.

Disney’s growing list of recent live-action productions also includes updated versions of Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and The Jungle Book, respectively.

Witherspoon was most recently seen in Hot Pursuit, and just this month signed on to Pale Blue Dot at Fox Searchlight. I like her but isn’t she a bit old for Tinkerbell?
