Release Dates for ‘Avatar’ Sequels Set, ‘Avatar 2’ to Be Released in 2020

New Release Dates

James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have finally set the release dates for the four Avatar sequels, starting on December 18th, 2020, for the first film.

Avatar 3 will open December 17th, 2021, followed by a three-year gap for Avatar 4, set for December 20th, 2024. Avatar 5 will then open on December 19th, 2025…Bet on no new Star Wars films in those dates.

With the news announced on the Avatar Facebook page (appropriately timed for Earth Day), the studio also announced that production on the four films is officially underway, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver returning to reprise their roles.

The scripts are written by Cameron with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno. Of course, Cameron will direct all of them. Each of the four sequels will reportedly be able to stand alone, but will together create a saga.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the first one performs and what that’ll mean for the obvious huge investment the studio is putting into this.
