Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus 2’ Could Delay Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien 5’

According to Bloody Disgusting, Fox is holding off on Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 until Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus 2 is done.

If this report is accurate, Prometheus 2 is going into production in the first quarter of 2016 (under Scott’s direction), with Alien 5, which Scott is also producing, likely to follow later that same year, and that means we could get the Prometheus sequel in 2017 and Alien 5 in 2018.

Here’s the quote from a source:

Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.

It will also be easier for Sigourney Weaver to schedule her time, which may be tight due to the Avatar sequels. I also guess Fox doesn’t want one movie being out-shined by the other, despite the fact that Scott made it specifically clear that there will be no ties to the Alien universe. And Ridley is not getting any younger in that director’s chair.

Blomkamp pitched Alien 5, during the Chappie press junket, as a film that would be a “genetic sibling”:

“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens, so it’s Alien, Aliens, and then this film.”

Well, we’ll just have to see how it plays out.
