Rob Zombie to Helm Groucho Marx Biopic RAISED EYEBROWS

My Years Inside Groucho’s House

Deadline is reporting that horror specialist, and ex-hard rock screamer, Rob Zombie is directing a movie on the life of Groucho Marx. The Zombie frontman-turned-filmmaker (The Lords of Salem) and Cold Iron Pictures’ Miranda Bailey have acquired the rights to the Steve Stoliar’s 1996 book ‘Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House,’ which details the final years of the life of legendary comedy actor.

Zombie is actually a big fan of Groucho. For real. I have no doubt about it. A very odd directing choice though, but what the hell. Maybe it will lead more people to discover the Marx Brothers who made 13 movies, including the political satire Duck Soup, which went with Animal Crackers, Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, Room Service and Cocoanuts. Groucho made a few pics without his brothers, like A Girl In Every Port and was a major star on radio and TV with the quiz show ‘You Bet Your Life.’

The screenplay will be written by Oren Moverman who recently penned Beach Boys biopic Love & Mercy. A previous attempt to tell the story of Groucho was in place with Big Eyes scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. It isn’t known when production on the Marx-weird movie will get under way. Zombie’s next horror thriller 31 is currently in post-production. I’ll bet he transitions back to schlocky-horror before week’s end.
