Robert Pattinson to Headline Claire Denis’ Sci-Fi Film

Claire Denis Rob Pattinson

The Twilight star Robert Pattinson has been set to star in Claire Denis’ upcoming English-language sci-fi film, co-written by Zadie Smith, author of the acclaimed novel “White Teeth,” and her husband Nick Laird.

Additional collaborators include Denis regular writing partner Jean-Pol Fargeau as well as astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau and artist Olafur Eliasson (The Weather Project, Tate Modern 2003 installation). Tindersticks‘ Stuart Staples will write a brand new score for the movie. The plot outline is being kept under wraps for now, but what is known is that Pattinson will play an astronaut in a story set beyond the solar system in a ‘future that seems like the present’.

The French filmmaker is best known outside her native country for her modern classics such as Beau Travail and 35 Shots of Rum, so this will mark change of direction in terms of genre for both, Claire and Rob. Good for them.

The as-yet-untitled sci-fi film will go into production early next year.
