Roberto Orci will Direct STAR TREK 3

In April we revealed that Roberto Orci wanted to direct Star Trek 3 and now it appears to be official: Star Trek Into Darkness co-writer will reportedly direct the 13th franchise feature.

In other words, Skydance and Paramount have indeed picked the filmmaker to take over directorial duties from J.J. Abrams.

Orci is joined on the script by screenwriters Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, who will help him pen the third installment since his original partner Alex Kurtzman pulled out of the job to direct The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off, Venom (2017), which he wrote with Orci and Ed Solomon.

Next adventure of the Enterprise crew is planned to arrive sometime in 2016 and some of the cast from the first two installments of the rebooted franchise, like Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, are expected to reprise their roles.

Personally, I thought they would fond an experienced director, but Orci apparently has the trust of Paramount and he is familiar with this material.

We are still waiting on official word from Paramount.
