Rumor: Michael B. Jordan to Play New Boba Fett

Michael B. Jordan

On the podcast Meet the Movie Press, The Wrap reporter Jeff Sneider revealed that sources tell him there are two films Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was in talks to helm: one was the third Star Wars spin-off, with Michael B. Jordan in the role of Boba Fett; the other was Fast & Furious 8, of course.

Earlier this week, we reported that he was in talks to helm Fast & Furious 8 and there were also rumors that he was in contention to direct Marvel’s Black Panther as well. Sneider claims that Gray was under consideration for the movie focusing on the iconic Bounty Hunter, before choosing Furious 8.

Since Straight Outta Compton is one of the biggest movies of 2015, it makes sense that Universal would want to work with the filmmaker again. Plus, Josh Trank departed the second Star Wars Anthology movie and the film was pushed back to an unknown date.

Sneider said that he thinks “Boba Fett will be African-American” and that he believes that Disney is “making every effort to hire a non-white male director to helm the project to satisfy their new diversity mandate.”

I’m all for Michael B. Jordan in Star Wars, but having Boba Fett be a young black man seems a little odd. Elsewhere, the idea of a Boba Fett movie is beyond stupid, but producer Kathleen Kennedy revealed in May that the fan-favorite bounty hunter is a “high priority” at Lucasfilm.

If you are eager to hear more about this, listen to Sneider’s comments in the video below.

I personally think the likelihood of that happening is slim. What do you guys think of this Boba Fett project?
