The first full-length trailer for Jason Reitman’s social media based relationship drama Men, Women & Children has arrived, painting a bleak picture of the effect the digital age can have on our lives.

The new Paramount Pictures release features a strong ensemble cast that includes Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Judy Greer, Emma Thompson and Dean Norris.

Sandler plays a horny, bored suburban dad married to a sexually frustrated DeWitt. A couple prefer to seek pleasure elsewhere with the help of technology. Meanwhile, Garner co-stars as one-woman NSA, an overprotective mother who encourages other parents to do the same.

Ansel Elgort as a dazed young guy and Kaitlyn Dever (a daughter of a tech-paranoid mom) as the girl he’s interested in are the emotional center of a movie that is definitely going to be sad.

Based on the novel by Chad Kultgen, the film received mixed reviews after its TIFF premiere. Men, Women & Childred will open in limited release on October 1st before going wide October 17th.

Well color me intrigued.

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.
