Silver Sable/Black Cat Spinoff Movie Gets a Title and Director

Sony’s Spider-Man Spinoff Film

Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff film that centers on the characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat has reportedly landed a title and director.

Heat Vision brings word that relative newcomer Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball, Beyond the Lights) will be at the helm and that Thor: Ragnarok scribe Christopher Yost is working on the most recent draft for the film, which will be titled Silver and Black.

“Created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, Silver Sable made her comic book debut in 1985’s The Amazing Spider-Man #265. Hailing from the fictional European nation Symkaria, Sable is an expertly trained mercenary whose company, Silver Sable International, funds a team called the Wild Pack. Although the Wild Pack was founded by Sable’s father, she herself becomes its leader.

Black Cat, meanwhile, dates back to 1979’s The Amazing Spider-Man #149. Created by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard, Felicia Hardy is an expert burglar who has the ability to manipulate probabilities, effectively bringing bad luck to those around her. Also she was never explicitly referred to as such, Felicity Jones’ The Amazing Spider-Man 2 character was planned as an alternate version of Hardy.”

The new super villain team-up does not have a fall 2018 release date like Sony’s other Spidey spinoff Venom, featuring Tom Hardy as the title hero and Ruben Fleischer as director. But it’s expected that, much like Venom, Silver and Black will not be a part of the MCU the way Spider-Man: Homecoming is.
