SISTER ACT is Getting the Disney Remake

Whoopi Goldberg

We all need original projects once in a blue moon, but a Sister Act remake would not be so bad. THR just broke the news that the studio has recruited Legally Blonde writing duo Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah to pen a screenplay for a third Sister Act movie.

Cinderella’s Alli Shearmur is on board to produce.

A 1992 singing-run comedy starred Whoopi Goldberg as a Reno lounge singer with a shady past forced to hide at a convent as part of a witness protection program after the mob puts a hit on her. An awesome smash hit also starred Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel.

The original made $139 million domestically and was quickly followed by a sequel the next year, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and a Tony Award nominated Broadway musical.

It’s unclear whether or not Goldberg will return for a third outing in some capacity. I will wait to decide if i want to watch this.
