Sony Making Female Superhero SPIDER-MAN Spinoff

What Sony Pictures need is a female superhero at the movies. Their revamp of the Spider-Man franchise will reportedly include a female hero-led flick set in the Spider-Man universe to be released in 2017, but which of the comic books’ many female characters will be highlighted remains to be seen.

Seems Sony really does want to compete with Marvel (Black Widow/possible Ms Marvel movie) and Warner Bros. (Wonder Woman movie), and competition is always good.

The trade reports that Lisa Joy Nolan (Burn Notice) is writing the script and producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are onboard

With the new release dates for Sinister Six (November 11, 2016) and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 pushed back from 2016 to 2018, a Venom movie is also in the works as well and the rumored title for the film is Venom Carnage. However, the female superhero spinoff from the Spider-Man universe is somewhat of a surprise.

Possible characters for this mysterious superhero project include Silver Sable, Black Cat, Stunner, Firestarter and Spider-Woman.

Because Black Cat was already introduced in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the obvious choice is Felicity Jones as Black Cat – Sony doesn’t need to establish a new character in the universe if they choose to go with her.

Women are huge consumers of film and it’s been proven even this summer how much of a profitable demo they can be.

As for the rumored title for the Venom movie, I don’t get the Carnage love and to me, he just represents aspects of 90s comics that are best left dead.
