Sony Set SINISTER SIX to 2016, Pushed AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 to 2018

No doubt Roberto Orci’s exit from the Amazing Spider-Man franchise left the series in a state of limbo. Actually, the not-so-Amazing Spider-Man 2 (it’s the lowest-grossing Spider-Man flick ever) pushed back Spidey’s third film by two years.

As TASM 2 failed to live up to box office hopes , Sony finally moved The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from its previously scheduled June 10, 2016 release date to 2018 when The Amazing Spider-Man 4 was originally supposed to hit.

Now the studio has scheduled to first release spin-off The Sinister Six on November 11, 2016.

Penned and directed by Drew Goddard, a movie that features an all-star lineup of Spider-Man villains was originally expected to release after Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Sony president Doug Belgrad said in a statement:

“With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016.”

The original Six members were Electro, Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Vulture and Sandman, but it’s unclear which villains this incarnation will feature.

The studio also announced that it has slated the Seth Gordon-helmed videogame adaptation Uncharted for June 10, 2016, the date previously held by The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The latest draft of the screenplay for the former David O. Russell project is being written by David Guggenheim.

What happens with the Alex Kurtzman-directed Venom then? I think that Sony look desperate.
