STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE Casts Diego Luna

First Star Wars Anthology Film

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One director Gareth Edwards casts Diego Luna (Elysium) in a lead role alongside Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, Variety reports.

Luna will be playing the role of a rebel fighter who plot to steal the Death Star plan in the film which narrative takes place between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005) and Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977), but obviously closer to A New Hope. This would be his biggest role to date.

Set for a release on December 16th, 2016, the upcoming Star Wars spin-off film will feature a “large ensemble similar to The Dirty Dozen and Saving Private Ryan.”

Australian character actor Ben Mendelsohn has been rumored for the villain of this film, but the actor said that there was nothing definitive to those rumors. I’d rather see him play a hero, but whatever.

The film will be followed six months later by Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII and then, the next year, a second Anthology film which is rumored to be a Boba Fett origin.
