SUICIDE SQUAD: David Ayer Teases Jared Leto’s Joker

David Ayer Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad director David Ayer returned to Twitter and described what Jared Leto’s Joker would be like. The filmmaker also shared photos from hi-tech Suicide Squad set that seems likely to be a prison: Arkham Asylum? Belle Reve Prison?

Here’s how Ayer described Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime in one word:

The Oscar winning actor will star alongside Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Cara Delevigne as Enchantress.

In related news, Viola Davis recently chatted with THR about taking on the role of Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad.

“As a comic book and Wonder Woman fan, I love the whole DC Comics universe. I traded comic books as a kid so all of that appeals to me. When you dream about being an actor as a kid, that’s what you dream about. That’s like play acting: being the superhero, getting the gun; it plays into that fantasy. How to Get Away with Murder changed my exposure. I don’t know if it changed the quality of roles as much as it changed the exposure. I mean certainly Amanda Waller is a fabulous character.”

Davis seems to know what she’s doing by recreating this DC character. The movie loosely based on John Ostrander’s run on Suicide Squad begins filming this April in Toronto and will be released on August 5, 2016.

I’m not really sure, but Leto has a chance to somehow rival Heath Ledger‘s Joker. First of all I hope that Fury writer/director David Ayer does a good job with the script. He seems very passionate about the project.

UPDATE: Looks like we finally got the Joker origin story in some way shape in the movie as Jared Leto cut his hair, shaved and took a selfie.

What the Hell is he covering half his face? For artsy nonsense reasons or Batman punched him in the eye? Oh, whatever.
