Superhero Movies That Weren’t Made by Marvel or DC
I present this list of superhero movies to you as seen from my own point of view and following the same chronological order.
1. Condorman (August 7, 1981)
I had never heard of this movie before, but based on the opening credits and a trailer it looks like a campy 80’s kids spy movie.
Cartoonist Woody becomes the superhero he draws. Using his gadgets he helps a Soviet spy defect to the West.
2. The Toxic Avenger (April 11, 1986)
Short plot description from IMDb is as follows:
Tromaville has a monstrous new hero. The Toxic Avenger is born when mop boy Melvin Junko falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.
Don’t get me wrong, but I ended up loving The Toxic Avenger. The acting is godawful, but it only adds to the overall charm of the entire thing. The remake, tentatively titled Toxic Twins: The Toxic Avenger V, was supposed to star Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the action icon dropped out last year. Troma President and creator of the original, Lloyd Kaufman said he still didn’t have a script that didn’t suck.
