Weekend Box Office: ‘Split’ Holds Top Spot, ‘Gold’ Bombs

M. Night Shyamalan‘s latest thriller Split (Universal Pictures), starring James McAvoy, easily held on to the top spot at the domestic box office this week, earning an estimated $26.3 million for a total of $78 million since its release.

Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media’s A Dog’s Purpose, being released by Universal Pictures, had a solid second place debut, bringing in an estimated $18.4 million from 3,059 theaters. The Lasse Hallstrom-directed film, featuring Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, John Ortiz, Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad, received an A CinemaScore from audiences.
