Director Peyton Reed in Talks to Return for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

THR brings word that Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is in talks with Marvel Studios to return for the 2018 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will feature Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope van Dyne/Wasp in an expanded role (as teased in the end credits of the first film).

If a deal closes, he would also join cast members Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas,

Yeah,  well, you know, Ant-Man is officially getting a sequel, but it won’t be titled Ant-Man 2. A sequel to this summer’s Paul Rudd vehicle will be titled Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Marvel Studios has announced that Ant-Man follow-up will hit theaters on July 6, 2018 as part of their Phase 3 update, even though the first installment was one of the worst performing in Marvel’s recent history.

Fox‘s Fantastic Four ended up falling behind Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation for the weekend with $26.2 million, along with a nasty “C-” CinemaScore.

The previous Fantastic Four film finished first with a $56.1-million opening weekend in 2005.

Turns out Ant-Man defeats three box office newbies because it was entertaining and fairly original for a Marvel film. Problem with Ant-Man is that you don’t want to watch it twice.

Universal’s spin-off prequel Minions opened big with an estimated $115.2 million over the weekend, the second highest opening weekend of all-time for an animated feature behind Shrek the Third, which opened with $121.6 million in 2007.
