The winners of the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards (HFPA), the precursor to the Oscars, have been announced tonight at a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton hotel, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the third year in a row.
Saturday afternoon, the National Society of Film Critics has named Jean-Luc Godard‘s Goodbye to Language the best film of the year, narrowly beating out Richard Linklater‘s acclaimed Boyhood for the top prize.
Not only did Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s Birdman have the most SAG and Independent Spirit Award nominations, but now it’s got the most Golden Globe Nominations as well. It’s leading the pack with seven total nods, followed by Boyhood and The Imitation Game with five a piece. (Inarritu is a lock to win the Oscar).
Alejandro G. Inarritu’s black comedy Birdman was the big winner at the 2014 Gotham Independent Awards on Monday night, despite the fact that Richard Linklater’s coming-of-age pic Boyhood topped the nominations with four.

First and foremost, I am glad he picked Edge of Tomorrow (which underperformed) over Guardians of the Galaxy, despite the fact that Marvel films don’t strive to fit in the “best movie of the year” category. They are great entertainment tho.
The first trailer for Richard Linklater‘s ambitious drama Boyhood was pulled down when it leaked online a few days ago, and is now officially online courtesy of IFC Films.
The experimental film spans the emotional journey of a family over the course of 12 years with all the actors virtually aging in “real time” on-screen as the film chronicles the family.
