Weekend Box Office: ‘The Martian’ Tops Weekend with $55M

Ridley Scott's 3D Epic

The Martian, an epic 3D space film from 20th Century Fox, touched down in theaters with an estimated $55 million at the weekend box office, the second best debut for October, Ridley Scott, and Matt Damon. Two years ago, Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity set the current record with $55.8 million.

Scott’s adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestseller earned a glowing A CinemaScore from audiences.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ Scored the Biggest September Debut

The PG-rated animated pic Hotel Transylvania 2 has set the new record for the biggest September opening of all time with $47.5 million. The movie for ages six and above looks as good as the first installment and won’t bore the adults either.

Sony Animation sequel shattered the $42.5 million record set by the original 2012 Hotel Transylvania.

Maze Runner Sequel

Fox has released the full-length trailer for their upcoming Maze Runner sequel, The Scorch Trials.

Opening September 18th, the dystopian sci-fi thriller stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, and Ki Hong Lee, and Wes Ball returns to direct.

20th Century Fox has just unveiled the first trailer and poster for the upcoming sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, which teases what happens to Dylan O’Brien and friends after they make their way out of the Maze.
