Weekend Box Office: ‘Split’ Three-peats, ‘Space Between Us’ Bombs

Split (Universal) stopped weak newcomers for a third week at No. 1, adding $14.5 million for a domestic total of $98.7 million. It’s probably a safe bet that M. Night Shyamalan will get to do the follow-up to the twist ending of the James McAvoy-fronted thriller.

Shyamalan’s horror-thriller has beaten out new releases, Paramount’s Rings, STX Entertainment’s The Space Between Us and Sony’s The Comedian over relatively slow Super Bowl weekend with an estimated $13 million from 2,931 theaters.

Paramount Pictures has released the new Rings trailer, showing off Samara’s (Bonnie Morgan) terror on an innocent victim.

“There once was a girl,” the creepy voiceover says. “No one dare speak her name. In death, she seeks vengeance for a life filled with pain. Once you see her story, you have 7 days to live. Because she does not forget, and she does not forgive.”

Italian Actress Matilda Lutz to Lead THE RING Sequel

It’s being reported that little-known Italian actress Matlida Lutz (The Fifth Wheel) has signed on for Paramount’s The Ring sequel, now titled Rings.

Also known as The Ring 3D, the Javier Gutierrez’s horror movie will reportedly maintain continuity with the previous American franchise entries rather than reboot it,
