‘Andrei Rublev’ Restoration Trailer: Tarkovsky’s 2nd Feature Gets a Theatrical Re-Release

Following recent theatrical releases and subsequent home releases of a pair of Andrei Tarkosvky restorations, Stalker and The Sacrifice, the new high-definition restoration of the Russian filmmaker’s preferred cut of his second feature Andrei Rublev will be getting the same treatment this summer.

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios‘ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soared to $145 million debut in the U.S. this weekend. The quirky superhero sequel opened 53.7% higher than the 2014 runaway hit. After two weeks in theaters around the world, the movie has nabbed about $428 million.

Otherwise, Universal Pictures‘ The Fate of the Furious dropped to second place with $8.5 million, pushing its total domestic take past the $200 million mark.

Janus Films has released the new trailer for Criterion Collection’s 2K restoration of Andrei Tarkovsky’s brilliant science fiction classic Stalker.

The restored version will be screening in a limited theatrical run at the Film Society of Lincoln Center starting on May 5 (followed by Solaris), and will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on July 18.
