Lucasfilm announced on Monday morning that the latest installment in the Skywalker saga will be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
As you can see in the official teaser poster for the film, the Star Wars name is in red, which was also the case for 1983’s Return of the Jedi, originally called Revenge of the Jedi.
Carrie Fisher‘s character of General Leia Organa won’t be digitized into any of the other upcoming films. Lucasfilm issued a statement to correct the rumors that while Carrie Fisher has died, her Princess Leia may live on.
Disney-Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode VIII topped Fandango‘s annual survey of the coming year’s most anticipated movies. In second place is Disney and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 with Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast making up the top 3 for 2017.
Outside of Disney movies, Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman and Sony-Marvel’s origins story Spider-Man: Homecoming round out the top five.
A prolific and respected film music composer, John Williams has confirmed to Variety that he will compose the scores for both sequels from director Steven Spielberg and Rian Johnson.
Williams’ themes for Rey and Kylo Ren (Episode VII) are very good, not to mention the classic scores he brought back for the film.
The cameras are now rolling for Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson, and the confirmation came with the first brief teaser and some more casting announcements.
Benicio Del Toro has been confirmed to take part, while Laura Dern has joined alongside newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew nor Max von Sydow are included in this cast announcement.
In a move that should surprise no one, the sequel to the 2009 mega-blockbuster won’t be ready by Christmas 2017.
Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they pushed Star Wars: Episode VIII from May 26, 2017 back to December 15, 2017. Instead, the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie is moving up to the previously held spot for Rian Johnson‘s sequel.
