Well, The Force remains with Disney as Star Wars: The Last Jedi has passed $1 billion at the global box office after three weeks of release with $1.040 billion through December 31.
With a domestic total of $517 million, the latest chapter in the Skywalker Saga has also become the highest grossing film of 2017, passing the $504 million made by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast back in the spring.
Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi remained in first place domestically with $68.4 million, but setting the biggest week-to-week drop (69%) at the box office of any of the Disney era Star Wars films. Internationally, The Last Jedi added $75.1 million this Christmas weekend, raising the overseas cume to $380.3 million, for a global total of $745.4 million through Sunday.
Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm‘s Star Wars: The Last Jedi drew in a near-record $220 million in the domestic box office, the second-highest opening weekend of all time behind 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The first proper extended television spot for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped during the World Series, giving us a few bits of new footage, including that one above of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) returning to the Millennium Falcon for the first time since 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.
Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first full-length Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer, and it’s as glorious as you expected. The new footage focuses on Rey (Daisy Ridley) who meets up with guilt-riddled Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and try to learn the ways of the Jedi.
It’s finally here! Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth chapter in the core “Skywalker Saga.”
It’s just something to start the hype train, which will reportedly pick up right were J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens ends — with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis and, of course, Mark Hamill. They’ll be joined by Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern.
Lucasfilm announced on Monday morning that the latest installment in the Skywalker saga will be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
As you can see in the official teaser poster for the film, the Star Wars name is in red, which was also the case for 1983’s Return of the Jedi, originally called Revenge of the Jedi.
