‘Trumbo’ Leads 2016 SAG Awards Nominations with Three

The Screen Actors Guild

The Hollywood blacklist drama Trumbo earned three SAG nominations, leading the pack in the film categories including a lead acting nomination for Bryan Cranston and another for ensemble. Kinda surprised to see Trumbo in there.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Perfect Guy’ Tops Shyamalan’s ‘Visit’

Screen Gems’ stalker-thriller The Perfect Guy narrowly beat out M. Night Shyamalan’s horror flick The Visit. Both films exceeded expectations and are going to end up over/under $26 million apiece.

A PG-13 rated thriller The Perfect Guy, starring Michael Ealy and Sanaa Lathan, pulled in $26.7 million ahead of Shyamalan’s micro-budget thriller The Visit close behind with an estimated $25.6 million.

Weekend Box Office: ‘War Room’ Conquers ‘Straight Outta Compton’

Box Office: September 5 - 7

Straight Outta Compton‘s reign at the top of the box office charts is over. Sony/Affirm’s faith-based War Room has conquered the N.W.A. biopic with $9.3 million to lead the modest U.S. box office during a sleepy Labor Day weekend.

The final total of U.S. box office receipts will reportedly be between $87 million and $89 million. Welcome to September.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Compton’ Three-peats; ‘War Room’ Tops Newbies

The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton is on top for the third consecutive weekend with $13.2 million from 3,142 theaters after losing out to War Room on Friday.

Compton is now the most successful musical biography of all time, topping the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line ($119.5) as well as 2002’s 8 Mile ($116.7), starring the rapper Eminem.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Wins Again

Weekend Box Office

Just as I predicted last week, none of new films are looking like legitimate competition for Straight Outta Compton to take top spot again.

The N.W.A. biopic from Comcast Corp.’s Universal Studios earned $26.8 million in its second weekend with this weekend’s three new releases falling flat at the domestic box office.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Straight Outta Compton’ had a Massive Opening

August 14-16 Estimates

Universal Pictures’ Straight Outta Compton had a massive opening with an estimated $56 million this weekend. Universal just can’t put a foot wrong lately. Their movies have grossed the company over $2 billion just in North America.

Weekend Box Office: FANTASTIC FOUR Opens Behind ROGUE NATION

August 09 Estimates

Fox‘s Fantastic Four ended up falling behind Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation for the weekend with $26.2 million, along with a nasty “C-” CinemaScore.

The previous Fantastic Four film finished first with a $56.1-million opening weekend in 2005.
