Another movie-related postponement and schedule change: Paramount Pictures announced that the follow-up to their under-performing Terminator: Genisys has been bumped in favor of Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch film.
Yeah, the little yellow sidekicks indeed create some chaos of their own. Universal’s spin-off prequel Minions opened big with an estimated $115.2 million over the weekend, the second highest opening weekend of all-time for an animated feature behind Shrek the Third, which opened with $121.6 million in 2007.
Update: Disney confirmed that Inside Out ended up with $29.77 million over the three day weekend instead of the $30.1 million that we first reported. The figures for Jurassic World have also been adjusted down from yesterday’s $30.1 million. Universal puts actual earnings for the film at $29.24 million, which means that the dinos have been beaten at the US box office.
Universal’s Jurassic World topped the box office for the third week in a row. The Chris Pratt/Bryce Dallas Howard-starring dino-sequel is in a close race for first with Pixar’s Inside Out, which brought in $52.1 million for the weekend, down just 43% from its opening weekend.
James Cameron, the Terminator franchise creator, lends his support to Terminator Genisys in a new featurette for the film.
The director of The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) recalls seeing the full feature at an early screening and says he regards the sequel as “the third film”.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have unveiled five new Terminator Genisys character posters featuring Byung-Hun Lee as the T-1000, Jason Clarke as the T-3000, a.k.a. the John Connornator, Emilia Clarke as resistance leader Sarah Connor, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800 and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.
