‘The Revenant,’ ‘Mad Max’ Lead 2016 Oscar Nominations

The 2016 Oscar nominees were announced this morning at a special two-part news conference at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The Revenant led the Oscar nominations with 12, followed by Mad Max: Fury Road with 10.

The Martian picked up 7, while Carol got 6. Spotlight also managed 6, as did Bridge of Spies, while The Big Short managed 5 nominations, along with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

‘Carol’ Leads 2016 Golden Globes with Five Nods


The nominations for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced this morning at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. On the film side, Todd HaynesCarol leads with five nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress nominations for both its leading ladies, followed by Steve Jobs, The Revenant, and The Big Short with four each.

The second The Big Short trailer kicks off the bank fraud in the teeth, just a weeks after its world premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles earlier this month to positive critical reception.

Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale play four maverick investors in this financial crisis drama based on Michael Lewis‘ 2010 book of the same name. They try to take on the banks before a major collapse in the global economy.
