Weekend Box Office: ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ Scored the Biggest September Debut

The PG-rated animated pic Hotel Transylvania 2 has set the new record for the biggest September opening of all time with $47.5 million. The movie for ages six and above looks as good as the first installment and won’t bore the adults either.

Sony Animation sequel shattered the $42.5 million record set by the original 2012 Hotel Transylvania.

Director Eli Roth revealed on Facebook today that The Green Inferno will finally see a release date via Blumhouse Productions label BH Tilt this September 25th, along with Universal Pictures and High Top Releasing. It’s about damn time.

Director Eli Roth has shared first teaser for his new horror-thriller Knock Knock, which had its premiere on Friday night at the Sundance Film Festival. Roth co-wrote it with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo (The Green Inferno). The film stars Keanu Reeves as a happily married architect alone for the weekend who gets an unexpected visit from two attractive young women (Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas) who seduce him and turn his life upside down.

The Eli Roth-directed Amazon cannibal tale The Green Inferno had been scheduled to hit theaters on September 5th, but now Open Road Films put the film release date up in the air for the moment due to an issue over who will cover the marketing expenses.

Distributor hasn’t commented yet on whether or not The Green Inferno will end up getting a later release date or if this goes straight to video.
