After reigning supreme atop the box office for weeks, The Hobbit has been finally taken down by Liam Neeson‘s Taken 3. A vengeance-seeking retired CIA operative easily dropped Bilbo and company down three spots on its first weekend.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies stayed on the top of the box office again with $41.4M over Christmas weekend,
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the weakest of the three Hobbit films in regards to plot, and is also the weakest opening of Peter Jackson’s six J.R.R. Tolkien adventures. But the threequel still pulled in $90.6 million in the U.S. and Canada and is still one of the season’s biggest releases.
Ridley Scott’s $140 million budgeted Exodus: Gods and Kings easily topped the weekend with a $24.5 million debut, which is well-below the $43.7 million earned fellow biblical epic Noah this past March on its opening weekend. A little surprising actually, I wasn’t expecting Mockingjay to get knocked off until The Hobbit came out.
Well it’s obvious that Disney has bigger plans for the release of the much-anticipated teaser and if true, it will be able to give the Jurassic World a run for their money.
