Weekend Box Office: ‘The Scorch Trials’ Beats ‘Black Mass’ at BO

Good for The Scorch Trials. The Maze Runner sequel edged out Black Mass at the weekend box office with $30.3 million. Warner Bros.’ crime drama took second place with $23.3 million.

The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials was produced with a $61 million budget, so with this lower opening weekend (compared to the $32.5 million that The Maze Runner claimed on this same weekend in 2014), it may have a tougher time earning a profit than the first movie.

Weekend Box Office: Denzel Washington’s THE EQUALIZER Takes Top Spot


As expected, the Sony/Columbia Pictures  version of of the classic 1980’s TV series The Equalizer dominated the weekend box office, debuting to an estimated $35 million from 3,236 theaters.

The Denzel Washington revenge thriller is the third biggest opening in his career following American Gangster and Safe House.

Dystopic young-adult thriller The Maze Runner dashes to top of U.S. box-office this weekend for a $32.5 million gross, solidly meeting expectations.

Following a solid start at the box office, 20th Century Fox has set a date for the sequel, The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

I’m aMAZED! Things get all labyrinth-y in the second trailer for director Wes Ball’s The Maze Runner, based on the best-selling post-apocalyptic novel, of course.

I’m getting really sick of YA films, but there’s definitely more footage here than was in the first preview and it certainly lives up to the hype.

The first Maze Runner trailer premiered on Teen Wolf commercial break on MTV last night. Perhaps not coincidentally, Dylan O’Brien has been doing some of his best work of the series’ three-season run, playing Stiles on Teen Wolf.
